Financial Controller (Mining) - Mozambique

Our client is one of the world's leading colored gemstone producers.  They require a Financial Controller who will report locally to the Project Manager and directly to the Group CFO in London.

The Financial Controller will be responsible for providing leadership to the accounting staff to enable preparation of accurate financial, cost and management accounting information, and also for handling finance operations in compliance to the rules and regulations.

A. Key Responsibilities:

• Accurate preparation and reporting of monthly financial results in strict accordance with Company deadlines.
• Finalising end of year statutory accounts report by specified date and presenting to the Directors for review.
• Ensure compliance with statutory authority and audit requirements.
• Co-ordinate and prepare annual budgets, including operating and capital expenditure budgets.
• Ensure effective management and control of cash and ensure timely and accurate payments of creditors.
• Ensure all company assets are monitored and accurately accounted for.
• Ensure all taxes are prepared and submitted on a timely basis.
• Liaising with the bankers, auditors, insurance brokers, creditors and tax authorities.
• Ensure sound system controls and procedures are in place.
• Ensure timely payroll runs and settlement of statutory obligations.
• Manage and lead a small team.

Minimum qualifications and experience

• Qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA etc)
• At least 4 years post qualifying experience gained in similar position and with Multinational company
• Knowledge of IFRS and Mozambican taxation rules
• Good knowledge of budgeting and forecasting issues and techniques.
• Portuguese/English speaking with excellent communications skills (both written and verbally)
• Analytical and logical problem solving skills
• A good business understanding
• Good knowledge of MS office and Advanced Excel skill
